Promised a rental car that never came

Home › Complaints › Auto & RV Insurance

Our founder was told a rental was coming while his truck sat waiting on repairs. Six weeks later, there's still no rental and the truck is still down.

What's going on

A rental car is often the difference between a bad week and a lost month. For anyone who works out of their truck, every day without one costs real money.

Rental reimbursement is usually an optional coverage on an auto policy, with a daily limit and a total cap. If you have it and a rental was promised, it should be in the claim notes. If you don't, nobody should be promising you one.

What the terms say

Rental reimbursement is usually an optional coverage on an auto policy, with a daily and total limit. Your declarations page says whether you have it.

Before it happens to you

If it already happened

  1. Check your declarations page for rental reimbursement coverage and its limits
  2. Ask for the rental promise in writing (email) with a reservation or claim note number
  3. Keep receipts if you rent yourself, and submit them for reimbursement
  4. File with your state department of insurance if a promised rental never comes

Then put it on the Wall, and see more options on Fight back.
