We fact-checked Good Sam's own websites
We read goodsam.com, goodsamesp.com, Good Sam Roadside, Tire & Wheel, TravelAssist and Good Sam RV Insurance, and checked 27 concrete claims against Camping World's SEC filings, Good Sam's own fine print and public records. Checked October 14, 2026.
Who stands behind the ESP?
goodsamesp.com names Affinity Brokerage, LLC as the plan's designer. It doesn't name the insurer or company that pays claims. Camping World's 2017 annual report said the plan was underwritten by QBE Europe Insurance Ltd. Its 2020 and later reports say only "a third party." Ask for the obligor's name in writing before you buy.
"30 years in business"?
goodsamesp.com says "30 years in business" without saying who or what. The Good Sam Club dates to 1966. The earliest record we found for the ESP is a QBE partnership from 1999, about 27 years ago. It may be older, but Good Sam doesn't say.
Every claim we checked
- Misleading Extended Service Plan · their pageClaim: designed for Good Sam by Affinity Brokerage, LLC, a Colorado surplus lines brokerage (Lic. #185640)
Our check: The site names the designer/broker but not the insurer or obligor who pays claims, nor the administrator. Readers could take the broker for the party behind the promise. Plan terms/FAQ pages fetched also do not name one. Verify Lic. #185640 with the Colorado Division of Insurance. - Misleading Extended Service Plan · their pageClaim: the Camping World and Good Sam family of brands (only ownership disclosure on page)
Our check: Footer links to Camping World investor relations and says 'family of brands' but never states plainly that Good Sam is owned by Camping World Holdings, which earns commissions on these plans per its 10-K. A reader must infer it. The disclosure exists in SEC filings and the footer, not in the claim area. - Misleading Extended Service Plan · their pageClaim: All program benefits are subject to limitations set forth in the current Terms & Conditions.
Our check: Marketing copy emphasises 'peace of mind' and 'more than just mechanical breakdown coverage' while deductibles, waiting periods and exclusions are not on the page; they sit in a contract the terms page does not include. Eligibility caps (15 model years, under 100,000 miles) are disclosed in the footer. - Misleading Roadside Assistance · their pageClaim: Unlimited distance towing to the nearest service center. / no matter the distance
Our check: The page itself limits towing to the nearest independent service center, notes extra fees for a destination of the member's choosing, and says benefits are subject to the Member Benefit Brochure. 'Unlimited' applies to distance to the nearest shop, not to any destination. Complaints report tow-limit surprises (self-reported). - Misleading Roadside Assistance · their pageClaim: 24/7 emergency breakdown support for RVs and autos
Our check: Dispatch is offered 24/7 but no response time is promised, benefits begin 48 hours after payment approval, and Trustpilot reviews (1.5 stars, 56 reviews) report waits of 4 to 12 hours. Self-reported. - Misleading Roadside Assistance · their pageClaim: Up To 50% off Roadside Assistance Plans / Reg. $129.95 now $64.95
Our check: The $64.95 price includes a $10 auto-renewal discount, is for new members only and reverts to regular price. Whether the 'Reg.' price is the usual price paid cannot be verified; this is a reference-price question. - Misleading Tire & Wheel · their pageClaim: Save up to 65% off the regular rate!
Our check: Auto reg. $169.99 vs $59.99 is about 65% only with a 5-year prepay plus auto-renewal discount, new members only, and not for CA or AK residents. The conditions are in footnotes. - Misleading TravelAssist · their pageClaim: Pet boarding: This benefit only applies to Premier plans.
Our check: The page lists no plan called Premier, so a buyer cannot tell which plan includes the benefit. - Unverifiable Camping World dealer sales · their pageClaim: Camping World dealer pages: disclosure that plans sold are Camping World/Good Sam affiliated products
Our check: The first part of the rv.campingworld.com financing page fetched had no protection-plan or affiliation text (page only partly read). The 10-K says Camping World sells protection plans at delivery and is primarily paid commission, and that RV-segment plans are mostly underwritten by independent third parties, so the relationship is disclosed to investors but I could not confirm consumer-facing disclosure. - Unverifiable Extended Service Plan · their pageClaim: for over 30 years / 30 years in business
Our check: The page does not say which entity or product has 30 years. The Good Sam Club dates to 1966 and a 2012 release says the ESP has worked with QBE since 1999 (about 27 years); no source found showing the ESP itself existed earlier. The administrator and underwriter appear to have changed or stopped being named over time (see ESP history items). - Unverifiable Extended Service Plan · their pageClaim: Over $300 million paid in claims and counting.
Our check: No period or entity is given and Camping World's 10-K does not report ESP claims paid. No independent source either way. - Unverifiable Extended Service Plan · their pageClaim: 1 in 5 owners file a claim in first year.
Our check: The page's own footnote says it is based on annual new business first-year claims from 2016-2026; the data is not published, so it cannot be checked. - Unverifiable Extended Service Plan · their pageClaim: fast, straightforward claims support.
Our check: No claim-handling timeframe is stated. Complaint sites contain many accounts of denials and delays, but those are self-reported. See complaints.md. - Unverifiable Good Sam Club · their pageClaim: a network of over 2,000 campgrounds
Our check: No independent count found. - Unverifiable RV Insurance · their pageClaim: Good Sam Insurance Agency 'nearly 40 years' (2020 press release)
Our check: Self-description in a press release; not independently confirmed. RV insurance claims such as savings and A-rated carrier were not found on pages that loaded; main goodsamrvinsurance.com home page timed out and was not checked. - Unverifiable Roadside Assistance · their pageClaim: #1 roadside assistance program (TopConsumerReviews.com, ConsumerVoice.org, as of May 2026)
Our check: Source rankings are cited, but they are third-party review/affiliate-style sites with undisclosed methodology, and the goodsam.com pop-up and /club page use '#1 Ranked' with no source at all. - Unverifiable Roadside Assistance · their pageClaim: a fraction of the cost compared to AAA and others
Our check: Based on Good Sam's own table (AAA Colorado Plus RV, checked 2/1/2026, $195 plus $85 per added driver) compared with Good Sam's discounted $64.95 starting price. Picks one AAA plan and the promotional Good Sam price, and 'others' is unspecified. - Unverifiable Roadside Assistance · their pageClaim: the nation's largest RV-specific dispatch network
Our check: No independent source found. Page states benefits are provided by Affinity Road & Travel Club, LLC or Americas Road & Travel Club, Inc. depending on state. - Unverifiable Roadside Assistance · their pageClaim: 4 out of 5 customers recommend / 9 out of 10 customers are highly satisfied (30,000+ surveyed by a 3rd party)
Our check: Survey and surveyor are not named. It sits against Trustpilot 1.5 stars with 87% 1-star, and BBB A+ for the Englewood profile with 208 complaints in 3 years; those measure different populations, so this is not a contradiction. - Unverifiable Tire & Wheel · their pageClaim: No deductible. Auto & RV coverage available
Our check: Page also says benefits start 7 days after purchase, exclude pre-existing conditions, and refer to a contract for limits; the contract and obligor are not named. One forum post says a dealer-sold Tire & Wheel/GAP product was administered by Safe-Guard, which is not necessarily this product. - Supported Extended Service Plan · their pageClaim: (ESP underwriter history) 'underwritten and insured by QBE Europe Insurance Ltd' (10-K FY2017) vs 'a third party' (later 10-Ks)
Our check: Fact record, not a marketing claim: FY2017 10-K named QBE Europe Insurance Ltd with about 68,000 contracts in force; FY2020 and later 10-Ks say only a third party underwrites. The 2012 release says the QBE partnership began in 1999 and ran through 2017. Whether the underwriter changed after 2017 is not publicly confirmed; the FY2025 10-K does not name one. The ESP contract, not found online, would show the current obligor. - Supported Extended Service Plan · their pageClaim: a prorated refund will be issued (after 30 days, less a cancellation fee; claims in first 30 days deducted)
Our check: Footnote discloses the refund conditions plainly; whether refunds are honored in practice is a complaint-site question, not verified. - Supported Good Sam Club · their pageClaim: A community of travelers since 1966.
Our check: Camping World's 10-K says the Good Sam Club was founded in 1966; Wikipedia agrees. - Supported Good Sam Club · their pageClaim: Standard $39/yr, Elite $149/yr; Membership fees are non-refundable; automatically renews annually
Our check: Prices and auto-renewal terms are disclosed on the page. The 10-K reports about 1.6 million paid members at 12/31/2025. - Supported RV Insurance · their pageClaim: independent agency that produces business for multiple insurers; online quotes limited to National General Group carriers
Our check: Site discloses that the agency is not the insurer and that quotes are limited to National General carriers (CA license page lists Integon, MIC General, National General entities). Page text was read through search summary because the page timed out on fetch. - Supported Roadside Assistance · their pageClaim: Trip interruption ... after an accident with another vehicle 100+ miles from home
Our check: Limit is stated on the page: applies after an accident with another vehicle, not breakdowns. - Supported TravelAssist · their pageClaim: Plans starting at $45.00/yr (Reg. $89.99); After initial 12 month term the customer is subject to the Regular Price
Our check: Price reversion is disclosed. The insurer/underwriter is not named on the page; a third-party review (undated) names QBE Europe Insurance Ltd. TravelAssist says it does not replace medical or travel insurance.
"Misleading" means the claim may be technically true but the fine print on the same page gives a different picture. "Unverifiable" means we found no public source either way. Neither means Good Sam is lying, and we'll update any line if Good Sam shows us the data.
